Cat Calorie Calculator - Calculate Cat Calorie Requirements

1. What is Cat Calorie Calculator?

Definition: This calculator estimates the daily calorie needs (MER) of your cat based on its weight, body condition, age, and dietary goals.

Uses: Helps tailor your cat’s diet to maintain a healthy weight or support weight loss, ensuring optimal nutrition.

2. How to Calculate Cat Calories

Step 1 - RER:
\[ \text{RER (kcal/day)} = 70 \times (\text{Weight in kg})^{0.75} \] Step 2 - MER: Multiply RER by a coefficient based on age, BCS, and goal.
Example: A 4 kg adult cat (BCS 4-5, maintain weight):
RER = \(70 \times 4^{0.75} \approx 210.6\) kcal/day; MER = \(210.6 \times 1.2 \approx 252.7\) kcal/day.

3. Factors Affecting Calorie Needs

Age: Kittens need more calories; seniors need fewer.
BCS: Underweight (1-3), Ideal (4-5), Overweight (6-9) adjust the coefficient.
Goal: Maintain weight uses higher coefficients; weight loss uses lower ones.

Cat Calorie Requirement Table

Weight (kg) Age Group BCS Goal MER (kcal/day)
2Kitten4-5Maintain~263
4Adult4-5Maintain~253
5Senior6-9Lose~179
