Definition: This calculator estimates the daily calorie needs (MER) of your cat based on its weight, body condition, age, and dietary goals.
Uses: Helps tailor your cat’s diet to maintain a healthy weight or support weight loss, ensuring optimal nutrition.
Step 1 - RER:
\[
\text{RER (kcal/day)} = 70 \times (\text{Weight in kg})^{0.75}
\]
Step 2 - MER: Multiply RER by a coefficient based on age, BCS, and goal.
Example: A 4 kg adult cat (BCS 4-5, maintain weight):
RER = \(70 \times 4^{0.75} \approx 210.6\) kcal/day; MER = \(210.6 \times 1.2 \approx 252.7\) kcal/day.
Age: Kittens need more calories; seniors need fewer.
BCS: Underweight (1-3), Ideal (4-5), Overweight (6-9) adjust the coefficient.
Goal: Maintain weight uses higher coefficients; weight loss uses lower ones.
Weight (kg) | Age Group | BCS | Goal | MER (kcal/day) |
---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Kitten | 4-5 | Maintain | ~263 |
4 | Adult | 4-5 | Maintain | ~253 |
5 | Senior | 6-9 | Lose | ~179 |
